SOIL:OurInvisibleAlly

Project period: 2024 – 2027

Program: Interreg Alpine Space

Focus: Facilitating implementation of EU soil legislation in Alpine municipalities, thus seizing transnational knowledge, mutual learning & concrete, cross-sectoral implementation on the local level

SOIL:OurInvisibleAlly is a project of the Interreg Alpine Space Programme, led by the Slovenian Forestry Institute. The project aims to enhance the uptake of sustainable soil management (SSM) practices in the Alps – on the regional and municipal scale, as well as on the local level.

To support this process, the project will combine existing knowledge with the experiences of practitioners and use this to develop accessible information materials. This theoretical foundation will be complemented by 10+ case studies showcasing sustainable soil management best practices in different Alpine countries and land-use sectors. Finally, the project will facilitate knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer learning through its workshops for multipliers (actors with a personal interest in further disseminating learnings to their own audiences).

We would like to target diverse audiences including the public and actors with limited or no background knowledge about soils. We would also like to foster emotional and sensory connections to soil and provide opportunities for entertaining yet informative encounters with it.

For this reason, the project places a strong focus on art and cultural events as tools for building curiosity, instilling a sense of wonder and conveying interesting and important bits of information.
