Project period: 2016-2020
Program: Interreg Alpine Space Programme
Focus: Linking Alpine Soil Knowledge for Sustainable Ecosystem Management and Capacity Building

The Links4Soils project (2016–2020) was embedded in and co-financed by the Interreg Alpine Space Programme. Led by the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, the project aimed at promoting soil protection and sustainable soil management in the Alpine region.
The main objective of the project was to reduce the fragmentation of knowledge and practice in the field of soil science and practice and to connect experts, decision-makers, and local communities, thus supporting the implementation of the Soil Protection Protocol of the Alpine Convention. Additionally, the project was focused reviewing existing regional and national data as well as raising awareness of the importance of soils in the Alpine Region.

Key results of the Links4Soils project include:
- a collection of good soil management practices
- the SoilCheck questionnaire helping municipalities make soil-conscious decisions in spatial planning
- the establishment of the permanent Alpine Soil Partnership network and the Alpine Soils Platform – an online platform providing information and decision-support tools based on the previously mentioned project outcomes
The project also contributed to raising awareness of the importance of Alpine soils as key natural resources providing ecosystem services, supporting climate resilience and advancing sustainable development in the Alps.
