Links4Soils

Project period: 2016 – 2020

Program: Interreg Alpine Space

Focus: Alpine soils protection and connectivity enhancement

Links4Soils (2016–2020) was a project of the Interreg Alpine Space program, led by the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia. The project aimed to improve soil protection and sustainable soil management in the Alpine region. The main objective was to reduce the fragmentation of knowledge and practice in the field of soil, to connect experts, decision-makers, and local communities, and thus contribute to the implementation of the Soil Protection Protocol of the Alpine Convention. It was focused on raising awareness of soils in the Alpine Region, reviewing the existing regional and national soil data. Key results include the online Alpine Soil Platform with information and decision-support tools, the SoilCheck questionnaire for municipalities, a collection of good soil management practices, and the establishment of the permanent Alpine Soil Partnership network. The project has contributed to raising awareness of soil as a key natural resource for ecosystem services, climate resilience, and sustainable development in the Alps.
